01The project

A floating room for sound, a sealed room for water, and neither allowed to show.

The cinema is a box inside the house, decoupled from the structure so vibration never reaches it. The spa sits below ground, waterproofed in several layers before a single handmade tile went on. Climate for both runs through ducts hidden in the lighting coves.

03The cinema wall, layer by layer

Mass, spring, mass: the room floats inside the house.

Each membrane does a different job: one adds mass, one absorbs, one breaks the path of vibration. Together they keep the film inside the room and the house outside it.

01Mass-spring-mass acoustic system with ACUSTIDAN, ROCDAN and M.A.D.4, creating a floating box for the cinema
02Custom-built jacuzzi and steam room with multi-layer technical waterproofing below ground
03Handmade Zellige finish applied only after the waterproofing was proven

07The technical challenge

Sound, water and air, underground.

A cinema needs silence, a spa needs a perfect seal and both need climate control that nobody sees. In a basement, each of those problems makes the others harder. The answer was to solve all three in the envelope, before any finish was chosen.
